"The Unpretentious Garden" (ca. 1903-9), oil on canvas, 33 x 40"
|
Gari Melchers (1860-1932)
This work, which portrays the Melchers' home in rural Holland, exemplifies his mastery of the impressionist style. He was
the Telfair's fine arts advisor from 1906 to 1916 and was responsible for collecting many of the museum's most famous American
impressionist and Ashcan school (which focused on the gritty reality and ethnic diversity of urban America) paintings.
